Have You Seen My 5000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner?

A Portland newspaper surprised their readers with a heading asking: Have You Seen My 5000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner? The man asking this question was the mayor of the town, making this headline even funnier.

The article stated that the unit was last seen being rolled down West Street in a Northern direction. Mayor Sheen even put up a reward for any information that may lead to his beloved machine being returned to his now hot and stuffy office.

In an attempt to save some taxpayers money, the mayor’s office thought they would set an example and switch off the very costly central heating and cooling of the building. Opting for small portable units to keep them working comfortably, this endeavor showed results quite quickly.

That was until some body took the air conditioner from the mayor’s office. The fact that this machine is totally portable, lightweight and even has its own wheels, made the removal very easy. The only question seems to be why the unit was wheeled away.

In a follow up report the next day, the paper reported that the mayor’s 5000 Btu Portable Air Conditioner was found. The man that took it got the shock of his life when he read about the alleged crime and came running with an explanation.

Turns out his job as maintenance guy at the offices of the mayor caused him to roll the unit out of the building. His aim was to empty the water collecting reservoir outside, but could not find a suitable spot to do this without people getting concerned about what he was doing. So he just walked until he was out of sight.

His story checked out as the air conditioner do have a tank that collects the water formed during cooling. But he could dump it right there in the garden as this was pure clean water with nothing harmful to pollute the planet.

What the janitor still have to explain though, is why he took the cooler home and only brought it back the next day.
